A number of games are of some questionable quality or another. I don't think I've even seen Zestiria's biggest fans defend it.īut like, it's not like it's the sort of extreme outlier of the series. it's a rare game that has an equip system live in such infamy. The combat system tried some new ideas that were interesting, but it felt like it got no testing and is just so rough and unbalanced. It jumped on the lazy open world bandwagon in the worst way.

The dungeon design is at the worst I've ever seen in the series (which is really saying something for the later Tales games). But the story ranges from nonexistent to awful. And I enjoyed the main cast more than not. It's got generally awesome music at least. The only reason I finished it is because I wanted to play Berseria. Since it's been a couple years it's hard to list every grievance I had, but overall I just found it to be boring and completely unenjoyable. It has weird technical problems (at least the Steam version idk about the others) like characters warping into position in cutscenes and going into T poses during mystic artes. They pad out the ending by forcing you to go on a fetch quest. The story (in my opinion) does nothing interesting at all and a certain big moment is not very well conveyed. The growth system is unnecessarily convoluted and I can only see people dedicated to playing on the highest difficulties giving it the time of day. Because battles don't take place in a separate arena the camera can be abysmal. Most dungeons are just hallways and they recycle the same environments. It has you running back and forth through these giant empty fields constantly. Personally I think it's a very bad game, one of few I actually regret playing.
